Okechukwu Paulinus Onyenuru is a multidisciplinary scientist and scientific advisor with expertise spanning cancer research, tumour immunology, translational laboratory science, and clinical bioinformatics. He brings a rare integration of wet-laboratory precision, including multiplex immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, IHC, and GLP-compliant assay development, with advanced computational proficiency in RNA-seq transcriptomics, variant analysis, and multi-omics pipelines.

Having trained at the University of Glasgow (Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow), Atlantic Technological University and Liverpool John Moores University, Onyenuru has developed specialised knowledge in colorectal cancer biology, COX-2-mediated immune modulation, tumour microenvironment characterisation, and biomarker discovery. Multiplex Immunofluorescence in Colorectal Tumour Pathology

At Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow (2023), Onyenuru designed and executed an original translational research project investigating the role of COX-2 in immune cell infiltration in colorectal polyps. He optimised single and multiplex immunofluorescence panels for COX-2, CD163, and CD83, applied them to 160 tissue microarray (TMA) samples, and performed quantitative image analysis using QuPath, contributing directly to the evidence base for COX-2 as a tumour-immune modulator relevant to CRC progression.

RNA-seq Transcriptomic Analysis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

As part of his MSc Bioinformatics dissertation (2026), Onyenuru constructed a comprehensive end-to-end R-based pipeline for bulk RNA-seq analysis of IBD patient cohorts (GSE235236). The pipeline integrates DESeq2 differential expression with batch-corrected covariate modelling, functional enrichment across GO/KEGG/Reactome/Disease Ontology, VST-normalised PCA and heatmap visualisation, weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), and immune deconvolution, producing a translational biomarker characterisation framework applicable to patient stratification in clinical trials.

GLP-Compliant Biosafety & Advanced Therapy Laboratory Training

Onyenuru completed intensive GLP/GMP training in fundamental and advanced therapies and biosafety testing (Ayrshire College & Merck Bioscience UK, 2023), providing him with the regulatory competency to advise on laboratory compliance frameworks, assay validation requirements, and safety protocols for clinical trial sample processing.
